Maderia

The exotic sub-tropical island of Maderia, situated in the Atlantic Ocean some 600 miles from Lisbon, was the first step in the Portuguese Discoveries of the New World. When in 1425 the first settlers on Maderia started to cultivate the lower slopes on terraces, they built ingenuous watercourses with adjacent path - levadas - that cross the land covering more than 1350 miles, and take us to explore the unique and exotic vegetation of this beautiful island.
