Tuscan Trail Program

This walk across the hills of central Tuscany follows paths between some of Italy’s best preserved medieval hilltop towns, from Etruscan Volterra we walk to gently rolling Sienese hills, rich with vineyards, picturesque castles and walled medieval towns ( including San Gimignano with its famous towers ) until, emerging from forest of Monte Maggio, we come to Siena, the most perfectly preserved great medieval city in Europe.

Southern Tuscan Trail

The walking is ideal, through vineyards of world renown, and across picturesquely eroded hills of the crete that in summer are golden with rippling fields of wheat and barley. Every town and village en route is a gem: beautiful Romanesque churches, Renaissance Pines, the great abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore with its frescoed cloisters....and at the end Siena.

Renaissance Tuscany Program

Walking from one Renaissance Villa to the next in the hills surrounding Florence, towards the medieval towers of San Gimignano. Nowhere is this more evident than in central Tuscany where magnificent examples of medieval and Renaissance architecture, art, and even traditions remain perfectly preserved.

Unknown Tuscany Program

This walk takes us through the Land of the Etruscans - dwelling and tombs hewn from the " tufo", and down dramatic three thousand-year-old roads cut up to 100 ft.deep into the volcanic rock.

Although everywhere we stay en route is of Etruscan origin, our journey encompasses far more than "Etruscan Places". There is inspiring walking, splendid crag top cities, medieval castles, remarkable historic churches, gushing thermal springs (where you will swim ), the wide crater lake of Bolsena, and we will also walk up to crag-top Orvieto dominated by its magnificent cathedral.

Walking and cycling in Tuscany is a constant delight. In the perfectly-preserved town and villages, we find people living much as their ancestors have done for hundreds of years. Hills crowned with walled medieval villages and castles; forests of oak, beech and chestnut, fertile valleys where green rows of wine intersect golden fields of wheat.......

Unknown Umbria Program

Remote in the east of Umbria, protected by its relative inaccessibility, is one of the least visited, most unexpectedly unique and beautiful area in Europe. From high open pastures of springy turf, that extend mile after mile over the rounded peaks of Monti Sibillini. We descend to the remote walled medieval town of Norcia...... then there is Roccaporena, craggy and wild at the junction of two gorges, birthplace of St. Rita, patron saint of desperate causes. From Val di Nera we walk to Spoleto, bustling and cosmopolitan, with its superb works of the art and architecture.

Truffles of Umbria

Growing underground in moist earth amongst the roots of oak and hazel-nut trees, this parasitic mushroom has been renowned since ancient times as the greatest of gastronomic delicacies, its flavour and aroma are exquisite. Walking though some Europe’s most beautiful hills accompanied by experienced truffle hunters using a motley assortment of dogs, we discover that the pursuit of this most unusual fungs is not a pastime: it is a passion!.

Mushrooms of the Lucano

Remote in the mountains of Italy’s "boot" is one of the most remarkable, and least known, area in Europe. It has wonderful walking, and the greatest variety and profusion of mushrooms on the continent - and, not least, it has the sites of Magna Gręcia. Accompanied on our walks by a renowned mycologist, we discover the wonders of funghi, marvel at civilisation in Metapontum, Heraclea and Sybaris, and explore an unknown area of Italy.

Cinque Terre - independent tour

The Cinque Terre famed for the beauty of its coastline, its picturesque villages, and ancient system of footpaths which, for centuries, were the only land link with the outside world. Steep, rocky cliffs plunge in to the turquoise Mediterranean. Tiny villages cling to the coast, cradled by vineyarded terraces. Fragrant olive groves mingle with pine trees and bright colored wildflowers. Quiet coves encircle beautiful beaches. Winding by foot, train and boat along shimmering waters and ancient paths, we soak up the sun, the relaxed Mediterranean ambiance and dazzling scenery.
