Dordogne
This journey takes us through one of the most picturesque and interesting river valleys in Europe - past cliffs and wooded hills, and, reflected in the slow-moving waters of the river, superbly situated châteaux and villages of honey-colored stone, their gardens bright with flowers.

Haute Provence
On the cusp between Provence and the Alps, the archetypal Provençal images - a field lined with rows of lavender, a "village perchè" cresting a distant hilltop, a beautiful stone farmhouse sitting solidly under an oak tree - seem to have been transposed in to a wild hinterland of thickly wooded valley, narrow gorges and high plateaux.

Where the Pyrenees roll down to the Atlantic, mountains give way to high hills of springy flower-filled turf, fertile valleys with small farms and picturesque villages, and finally the sand beaches of the Côte d’Argent: this is the ‘pays Basque’, renowned for beautiful and unspoilt areas of Europe.

Painters of Provence
We walk through typical Provence countryside to discover the images captured by Cézanne and Van Gogh. Based first in Aix-en-Provence, one time home of Cézanne, with its shaded boulevards and street cafe’, we explore the picturesque and dramatic country surrounding the town. Then Arles, which still contains magnificent remnants of its Roman past, and where Van Gogh lived and painted some of his most famous pictures.
