Pinas Bay - Tropic Star Lodge - Panama

The word Panama means an abundance of fish. Pinas Bay truly lives up to this meaning. In the waters around the Lodge, you can catch dolphin, rainbow runner, snapper, tuna, grouper, amberjack, rooster fish, and mackerel. In the last few years, Pacific tarpon (which made the trip through the canal) have been caught in the 50 to 100 pound range. Black, blue and striped marlin, as well as sailfish, are normally right outside the our front door, making this a truly unique location. The prime black marlin season runs from mid-December through April. Then the Pacific sailfish move in during April through July. The striped marlin season is considered mid-March through May. There have been more I.G.F.A. world records broken in Pinas Bay than anywhere else in the world. The Tropic Star Lodge holds over forty world records at present time. Tropic Star Lodge is a veritable paradise cut of the side of a mountain at the edge of the Darien Jungle on the Pacific coast of Panama. The Lodge is situated 150 miles south of Panama City, or 35 miles from the Colombian border. It can only reached by boat or plane, since there are not road within a hundred miles. A charter plane lands on Pinas Bay airstrip. Than take fifteen minute boat ride to Tropic Star Lodge.
